Substance abuse prevention decision makers and providers are increasingly encouraged, or required, to use evidence-based practice (EBP). However, identifying what is evidence-based, identifying what EBP's are most appropriate for a particular need and environment, and deciding how to realistically implement EBP's are all problematic.
This workshop begins with the premise that selecting manualized programs from approved lists is an unrealistic and often
counterproductive approach to selecting and implementing EBP's. Participants will discuss the benefits and challenges of the
movement toward EBP's and learn ways of attaining these benefits and meeting these challenges in realistic and relevant ways.
